Walking with Guests – 11th February 2012

Walking   /

It’s a full house this week with 11 guests – including Max and Alistair (13yrs and 17yrs) who are our youngest walkers to date!

Their enthusiasm for the mountains was great to experience and it was a pleasure to guide them and the rest of the delightful group through the many tracks we wandered during the week

First day we visited the El Somo Circuit – I managed to drop my camera so unfortunately the images have a blur in the centre.

Working our way down the valley towards Bolulla

Looking back at the Aixorta

We continue along the track

Stopping for lunch under the ruins of Bolulla Castle

After lunch we continue the circuit and walk a 4km extension to take in the magnificent arches formed by wind erosion

Day 2 we set sail for the Caballo Verde – we start the walk from Benimurrell

After a quick water stop and photo op it’s on to the ridge

We continue to gain height as we go

The walk is about 15k and takes in a good 850m of ascent – it finishes with the 2000 steps

Charlie has found a friend in Alistair

The next day we walk straight from Carrascal – it’s the Coll de Rates

We ascend in two sections

It’s Max’s turn to make friends with the dogs – this time it’s Ellie that’s taken a shine!

We reach the finca and stop for a break looking back at great views of the Montgo

Then it’s lunch at the viewpoint with great views of Parcent – time then to weave down the Mozarabic Trail back to the village

Thursday sees our Merry Band head for the coast -Max is keen to do some “rock-hopping”

We work our way into the barranco

Then follow the river bank for about 2 k

Before reaching the sea

The “Worthy’s” offer a photo op

Then it’s up and on to the under-cliff

We walk a further couple of kilometres along the track before returning to the start point – it has been another amazing day with the weather again being perfect with highs of 20c

We transfer to the wonderful coastal town of Moraira

With it’s chic promenade

And wonderul beach

The final day takes in the Bernia Range

After a tough “pull”

We catch our breath and admire the view

It’s then onward through the tunnel and out the cavern the other side

We are met by a friendly Robin

And an even friendlier group of Alpine Accentors

We set off along the far side of the mountain

Crossing slopes of scree

We lunch at the ruins of the old fort built in the 1500’s

Before returning to our start point via Echo Valley

It has been a great week with a really nice set of guests.
