We have just spent a great week with friends and family in Norfolk to celebrate Sue’s Birthday.
Sue and I and our good friends Carol and Syd flew out from Spain last week.
It took Sue and I quite a while to chill out and relax (about 20 mins) – the flight went astonishingly quickly (woke-up on landing) and then we travelled by train across London, taking in the sights of Tower Bridge, London Eye, St Paul’s and the new Olympic stadiums, before arriving at the penultimate leg of our journey – Norwich
After a little light refreshment it’s on to Wroxham
And a short stroll (seemed like about 2 miles) from the station to the house
Kathy and Alex had made a great meal us – then a surprise cake (which Alex made) complete with a Roman Candle
It was a long day but real fun – we hope our friends Nikki and Gary can manage to make the long journey from Scotland tomorrow – we kn0w the forecast is pretty bad.
Before Gary and Nikki arrive we decorate the lounge
Plenty of balloons
And a Christmas Tree!
Gary & Nikki make it after an exhausting 12 hour drive
The next day we rug-up ready to face the elements – Nikki & Syd look ready for a spot of boating
And so does Carol – nice hat!
The men do a spot of bonding before setting sail (or whatever the equivalent is when you take out a motor launch)
Then it’s off up the river
I take first turn at the wheel, sporting my new super thermal hat and it works – good job as it’s a bit parky on the river
Gary is next up, followed by Syd (mind that tree) Brown who created some interesting moments,
Best driver of the day went to Nikki who plotted the straightest course by far.
We celebrate our safe return (no thanks to Syd) with a couple of pints at the local pub – then it’s back to the house to rustle up some food
The following night we are joined by Sue’s sister Tess, her husband Sean and their children Bella and Ben – not forgetting their two Flat Coated Retivers – Jazz and Cocoa. Carol creates and amazing table setting and also cooks a fantastic 3 course meal
Which everyone thoroughly enjoys
The next morning our flotilla of 3 boats set off from the house
We are waved off by Syd (mind that tree) Brown, who has been banned from even stepping foot on a boat, let alone piloting one
We wend our way down the river
Sean makes a few adjustments to the rigging, trying to gain even the slenderest advantage on speed
However it’s the kids who are the most competitive and the quickest – also the most enthusiastic!
It’s then back to base for Sue’s party – the table has been set, the cocktails made (thanks Carol) and the Fillet Steak is in the oven – all we need are some glamorous people
And here they are!
We manage to seat 14 people around the table – good food, great company – a wonderful night.
Returned to Spain late Tuesday – collected the dogs on Wednesday morning and took them straight out into the mountains, it’s T- Shirt weather again 21 degrees.
It was a great week of celebration – just what we needed before gearing up to our busy Christmas and New Year schedules. Thanks to everyone for coming you all helped make it a week to remember.
