Sierra de Alfaro and Barranco de Malafi – 25th February 2011

A great walk through the Barranco, taking in wonderful scenery along the way as well as a host of wild flowers.

The walk starts where the Calvo peak and the Malafi Barranco meets

It’s a gorgeous spot – peaceful and tranquil

As we wend our way along the bottom of the river bed we catch sight of a number of flowers, including and Early Star of Bethlehem (as above – normally white, this yellow one is a bit of a treat!)

A Hottentot Daisy

Something lilac which I need to identify!

Something blue that I need to investigate!

Ah at last one we know – Wild Rocket

Then another lilacy thing

A Wall Butterfly settles for a moment

We continue our walk out of the barranco

And work our way back to the small hamlet of Petracus

This is famous for its ancient cave paintings

Over 8000 years old they depict scenes of the times – although I must admit they were a little hard to make out. There are viewing platforms with images and descriptions of what you should be able to see – Should have gone to Specsavers!

After a bit of a long pull up the road its back to the Calvo which is surrounded by almond blossom and quite beautiful.
