It is great to have the girls over for the Easter holidays. They have been working hard in the UK with Claire achieving some excellent results on her Chef’s diploma course in Oxford and Kathy having just been offered a place at University of East Anglia to study Midwifery. Alex (Kathy’s boyfriend) is also with us and he is enjoying a bit of time out from his degree course as a Med Student in UEA.
We were really please (although a little surprised!) that Kathy suggested a walk in the mountains, so we extended the offer to our friends Gary and Nikki, who are currently staying at their holiday home in Alcalali, and Carol and Syd who live on Puerte de Valle. Claire, always a keen walker came too and so off we all set – with our dogs Charlie and Ellie of course.
The weather was good as we walked along the flat for about 3km.
Once at the font Charlie makes the most of the water-break opportunity
It’s then up hill – with the odd photo opportunity on the way – what a good looking bunch!
Here’s one of the short scrambles which need a bit of concentration
But there is always a rock to rest (or pose) on!
Then it’s a bit more up – with Claire leading the way
One last scramble that Alex takes in his stride (pretty large strides!)
Ellie our latest addition to our menagerie, looks on with interest!
Nikki and Gary negotiate the scramble next
Then it’s Claire and Kathy taking a slightly different route (trust them!)
We’re almost at the Forat (Tunnel) now – just enough time to admire the view
And for Carol to re-apply her lipstick!
Then it’s through the Forat – with everyone adopting their own style – here is Syd using his bend at the waist approach!
We all make it through – everyone looking pleased (or perhaps relieved!)
Now it’s off done the South side of the Bernia
Negotiating the scree
Then after lunch at the fort it’s homeward bound – with just one more quick group photo op!
Although some “milk the moment” more than others!
On the last leg we see some great new arrivals
It’s been a great walk as always – with excellent company. Today we plan another expedition – to the Imperial Chinese Restaurant in Calpe!
